EXPECTATIONS

Hello students and parents.

Please carefully read the course information below.  Individual course units and requirements are easily accessible in OddessyWare.  Take time each week to look at overall unit and course requirements to get the big picture.  The expectations that follow explain the basic and minimum requirements for participating in each social studies class.

Objective:  The overarching objective of history courses is to explore interpretations of the past and how the past is connected to the fleeting and fragile present.  Any government course must likewise incorporate this approach, while also establishing an understanding of civic ideals and how and why governments function.

Policies:   Online class meeting time is a requirement for courses at Smoky Valley Virtual Charter School (SVVCS).  Meeting online with the Marratech software provided to you requires that you are in appropriate attire for classroom attendance and that you have your camera and microphone on.

Attendance: Be on time for online class sessions and do not leave the session early.  If you leave an online session prior to its conclusion, e-mail me as soon as possible but no later than the same day, explaining what happened that caused your departure from the online session.  Failure to have and provide valid reasons for leaving class sessions early could result in an unexcused absence.  Signing onto Marratech a few minutes early will insure you are on time for class.  Our twice a week online class time provides additional information about your course content and valuable time to clarify lessons and assignments.  As your SVVCS student handbook explains to you, being present for class each day requires that you access and complete class work each school day in addition to attending online class sessions.  You are required to notify teachers of absences and arrange for completion of course work prior to being absent   Please contact me by e-mail prior to an absence and as soon as you find out you will have to be absent.  Additionally, read and be familiar with the unexcused absence policy in your handbook.  All work due on days considered unexcused cannot be accepted for credit.

Grades:  You will be evaluated through class participation (attendance, discussion, teacher observation, etc.) lessons (including projects & essays), quizzes, and tests.

There may be work assigned outside of OdysseyWare.  Sometimes this will be in place of an OdysseyWare lesson, but other times it will be in addition to OdysseyWare lessons.

You will be able to view your grades on PowerSchool.  Codes shown on PowerSchool include:
NHI – Not handed in
DO – Do Over
EX – Excused = not required
