Hello. I am Mrs. Carlson. I work part time at the Smoky Valley Virtual Charter school. I work on special projects and I substitute for Drawing and Art Appreciation. I have taught Drawing and Advanced Drawing for the past three years, but increased responsibilities in our home businesses (farming/ranching and rural real estate) have led me to decrease my school hours. I LOVE to work with my hands doing creative things and this interest is reflected in my teaching as shown in my introduction to my drawing syllabus.
“Everyone is creative in some way. Some doodle in their notebook during a lecture or while on the phone or while trying to explain a concept, some draw sketches of house plans or seek to have a nice layout for their advertisement, some enjoy matching clothing or arranging furniture, some stand in awe of a painting or a sunset, others love to paint or draw or make stained glass or sew or design their own cards. Me, I enjoy all of the above and constantly look for experiences to try new artistic pursuits. My joy is to add beauty to life in some way every day.”
My husband and I live on a farm outside of Lindsborg (the sunset picture above is what I see out my back door!) and we have both crops and cattle as well as run our own real estate business, Burr/Carlson Farm & Ranch Realty (burrfarmranch.com). We have three grown children.
I have several public art pieces in Lindsborg including a decorated panel on the fence of the children’s playground, the Blue Colla Dala in front of Scott’s grocery store and I did the painting on the band shell for the summer theatre production (with help from my paint crew!).
