I was born in Lindsborg, Kansas in 1944. After graduating from Bethany College in 1966 I joined the U.S. Peace Corps and attended training that summer at Boston University. I served in the U.S. Peace Corps for two years as a teacher in a Government Secondary School in Ilorin, Nigeria where I taught Chemistry and Mathematics according to the British/West African syllabus.
I then lived for nineteen years in Dublin, Ireland. I attended Trinity College (Dublin) to obtain higher diplomas in education and computers in education (Graduate school of engineering, TCD), and I taught science and mathematics in Dublin schools. In 1970 I married marine biologist Krishan Bhatnagar and our three children were all born in Dublin. In 1988 we moved to Lindsborg where our children all attended Smoky Valley schools and I continued teaching, first as a substitute teacher and then as a Science Teacher with the Smoky Valley Virtual Charter School.
