November 29 Thanks for the picture today. The concert is next Tuesday! We will
play a dress rehearsal in the gym for other students at 10:00, and then we will meet
at 6:30 pm in the orchestra room to tune for the concert! I can’t wait! Dress up!

November 27 Welcome back! You are sounding very good on our concert pieces.
Don’t forget to practice them all this week! CONCERT is Tuesday, Dec. 4th.

November20 Thanks for letting me practice my wedding music on you today! Are you glad to know that your teacher has to practice every day too? Don’t forget to play your Thanksgiving concert for you family this weekend. Pass or fail, A or F?!

November 15 Great job of playing for the 3rd graders today! I was very proud of you!

November 13 Your homework assignment for Thanksgiving vacation will be to play a concert for as many family members as possible. Let them brag on you and tell you how talented you are, and it will be our motivation to keep practicing. Also, please teach Twinkle to someone in your fam. On Thursday, we will be playing all the tunes on pg. 14 & 15, as well as our concert songs. Only 4 more lessons before the concert on Tuesday, December 4th!

November 8 I was so dazzled by your sightreading today. You played Jingle Bells and
Mozart Melody the very first time you looked at them. That’s because you know the notes
on the lines and spaces. When you REALLY know how to recognize the notes on the staff, you can play anything!! Five more lessons until our concert on Dec. 4th! Check out the new
photos of what I did last night!

November 6 I suspect that no one ever really reads this. If you are reading this, would you send me an email at shigbee@smokyvalley.org. Thanks! Our concert is on Tuesday, December 4th and we will play: Twinkle Variations, then #13, 15, 19, 21, 22, 26, 29, 32, 33, 34, & 36 from the book.

November 1 Pretty good tests today. Next Tuesday I’ll be testing again on your choice of #33, 34 or 36, but you have to play a different one than you played today. Practice pages
12 & 13!

October 30 TEST COMING ON THURSDAY! Your choice of # 33, 34, or 36. Play with the bow solo in class. Don’t forget to practice!

October 26 Wow, today you played all of pg. 10 & 11 with the bow. Then you marked in the finger numbers for pg. 12 & 13 and played those three pieces pizzicato. You know what to practice don’t you? Page 10-14, and the Twinkle Variations of course!

October 24 I missed you today! Hope you learned a lot about water on your field trip
to McPherson. Practice pg. 10 - 14.

October 18 Wow, end of the nine weeks already! I’m very pleased with each student’s progress. Today we learned the A string notes on page 10 & 11. We also put a new sticker dot on our bows for practicing Peppermint and Mrs. Higbee at the tip of the bow.

October 11 Next week for the end of the quarter, I want to hear each of you play a solo
with the bow. Pick you favorite piece and practice like crazy. I’ll be watching for long
bows, no poison wrist, hitting only one string at a time, right notes, big tone! Can’t
wait to hear you!

October 9 Ooo, we’re rolling now! I loved hearing Lightly Row and Merrily We Roll Along
from the book. The bow holds are looking good, and now we’re working on “Peanuts & Popcorn” in addition to Mississippi River and Run Pony. Be sure to practice with the CD!

October 4 Wow, I heard some great solos today! Now I challenge you to choose another
piece from page 8 or 9 to play as a solo at our next lesson WITH THE BOW! And of course,
you should always play Miss. River, Run Pony and maybe Peanuts & Popcorn. :)

October 2 Nice job in the book today! We played every piece on pg. 6, 7, 8, & 9 today with
the CD. On Thursday, you voted to test on either piece #19 or #20. So take your choice,
play your favorite with the bow, and practice a bunch so you’ll sound great Thursday!

September 27th Wow, we played all of page 6 & 7 with the CD accompaniment today!
Yahooo! Each of you has the orange CD disc in your book. Now we want to practice
WITH THE CD every day. If you have page 6 & 7 down perfectly pizzicato and with the
bow, then try pg. 8 & 9!! And, of course don’t forget Run Pony and Mississippi River.

September 25th I enjoyed hearing each of you play Mississippi River today. I loved how you
kept your bow straight on the highway, no poison wrist and dug into the string with some “oomph!” On Thursday we will be playing page 6 & 7 in the books, so try it at home & see
if you can do it. Have you watched your DVD disc in your book?

September 20th Today was such an important lesson about keeping your eyes on the music, even if strange things happen in the front of the room! You have five nights to practice now before I’ll see you next Tuesday. Try playing pg. 4 & 5 for your parents, and all the
Twinkle variations you know.

September 18th Great job with bows today. Now you can practice Twinkle on any string,
pizzicato or with bow, Mississippi River rhythm, or try Run Pony, Run Pony rhythm. If you
read this, send me an email telling me what you practiced!

September 13th Fun pep rally! Don’t forget to practice Twinkle pizzicato and with the

September 11th No lesson on Thursday, darn! (I’ll come eat lunch with you at the park
for the big Wolverine Pep Rally. Practice Twinkle with the bow. :)
