The Spring 2008 semester is upon us, and it will prove to be a busy one for the “Mighty Viking Band.” A few highlights of this spring include:

Viking Band News!
Congratulations State Band Members!
On Saturday, January 5th, students from the entire state of Kansas converged upon Salina, to audition for a spot in the KMEA All State Band. The Smoky Valley Band members were selected for this very prestigious honor: Congratulations to Nickolas Carlson, clarinet; Brandon Carlson, percussion; & Sara Anderson, percussion.
Congratulations District Band Members!
On Saturday, November 3rd, auditions were held at Andover Central High School for the South Central KMEA District Honor Band. Eight Students from the Smoky Valley Viking Band were selected as members of the District Honor Band. Congratulations to these students for achieving this high honor!

Special Thanks to the Torsby Brass!
The Smoky Valley Bands would like to thank the Torsby Brass of Torsby, Sweden for the clinic that they presented for the SVHS Band on Thursday, October 11th. Their performance was an excellent opportunity for us to hear a typical European brass band. Again, THANK YOU, TORSBY BRASS!
